In short: Route 1 is the airport bus and the network's workhorse: Sunshine Bay to the Remarkables Shops via Fernhill, the town centre, Frankton Hub and Queenstown Airport, roughly every 15 minutes from 6am until after midnight on weekdays, $2.50 with a Bee Card.

Fare: $2.50 with a Bee Card ($1.50 child or youth), $4 cash. Transfers to another Orbus route are free within 45 minutes with a Bee Card. Departure times are the first stop of the main pattern; weekends and public holidays run reduced timetables, and school-day short trips are not counted here.

If you only learn one route, learn this one. It links everything a visitor needs: the airport, Frankton Hub (where Routes 2, 3 and 5 connect), the town centre stops on Stanley Street and Camp Street, Fernhill's accommodation and the western end at Sunshine Bay, the last stop before the Glenorchy road.

Cash on the airport leg is $10, so this is the route that makes the $5 Bee Card pay for itself on the first ride. Luggage travels by your feet; there are no racks.
