Queenstown Airport to town: bus, taxi, shuttle or rental
The airport is 8 km from the town centre, at Frankton. Here is every way in, with the prices the operators actually publish.

In short: The Orbus Route 1 bus is $2.50 with a Bee Card ($10 cash) and runs every 15 minutes or so to central Queenstown in 16 to 21 minutes by the ORC timetable. A metered taxi is NZ$50 to $85 by the airport’s own estimate, Uber and YourRide quote upfront and is the only app-based rideshare at the airport, shared shuttles meet every flight, and the rental desks are inside the terminal. Rent a car only if you are leaving the Whakatipu basin.

The bus: Route 1, $2.50
Walk out of the terminal to the bus stop on the airport forecourt. Route 1 (Sunshine Bay to Remarkables Shops) stops here on the way through Frankton to town, roughly every 15 minutes from 6:00am until after midnight. Tag on with a Bee Card for $2.50 ($1.50 child or youth); cash on the airport leg is $10 adult, $8 child. Free transfer to any other route within 45 minutes. Taxi and rideshare
The rank is outside the terminal and staffed around the clock. Queenstown Airport publishes its own fare estimates: NZ$50 to $85 to the CBD, NZ$25 to $40 to Frankton or Remarkables Park, NZ$85 to $115 to Arrowtown. Every fare includes the $9.10 airport pickup fee. Companies on the rank: Queenstown Blue Bubble Taxis, Corporate Cabs, Green Cabs and Arrowtown Taxis. Uber is the only app-based rideshare operating at the airport; it picks up from the signposted rideshare zone and shows the fare before you confirm. YourRide is a taxi app rather than a rideshare, booking you a Queenstown Taxis car.
Shared shuttles
Super Shuttle runs a door-to-door shared service that meets every flight. Fares are quoted when you book and fall per person for groups, so it competes with a taxi for three or four people going to the same place. Book at supershuttle.co.nz or 0800 748 885. Many hotels also run their own airport pickups; ask when you book the room.
Rental car: when it is worth it
Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Thrifty and the local firms all have desks inside the terminal, and town is a 10 to 20 minute drive. The honest advice: if your plans are Queenstown, Frankton, the airport and Arrowtown, skip the car. Orbus covers all of that for $2.50 a ride and central parking is scarce and enforced. Local knowledge
- Late arrival: Route 1 runs past midnight on weekdays, and taxis are on the rank 24 hours. You will not be stranded.
- Luggage on the bus is fine; there are no racks, so keep bags by your feet and travel outside the 8am school run if you can.
- Staying in Frankton? Some accommodation is a 10-minute walk from the terminal. Check the map before paying for anything.
- Leaving: allow 45 minutes by bus from town, and remember the Bee Card fare applies in both directions.
