Terms of use
Queenstown Pocket, the website and the app · Last updated 21 October 2026
1. Who we are
Queenstown Pocket is a guide to Queenstown made by Tally Sphere Limited, a New Zealand company (company number 9391852, NZBN 9429053322067). Our registered office is on the New Zealand Companies Register. You can reach us at hello@queenstownpocket.com. These terms cover the Queenstown Pocket app and queenstownpocket.com. “We” and “us” means Tally Sphere Limited. “You” means the person using the app or the site.
2. Accepting these terms, and age
Using the app or the site means you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use them. You need to be 13 or older to use the app. Deals that involve alcohol are for people 18 and over only.
3. Your licence to use the app
We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use. We can end it under section 20. On iPhone and iPad, section 23 also applies.
4. What the app is
The app is a guide. We collect bus times, trail details, prices, opening hours and events from public sources and from operators, and we show the date we checked each price and each set of hours. Things change, and some of what we show will be incomplete, out of date or wrong. Nothing in the app or on the site is professional advice. Check with the operator or the official source before you rely on it.
5. Safety
Walking, skiing, boating and other outdoor activities carry real risk. Before you go, check the official sources:
- DOC for track alerts
- the New Zealand Avalanche Advisory for avalanche danger
- NZTA for road status
- MetService for the forecast
Tell someone your plans, and carry a personal locator beacon in the backcountry. The app is not an emergency service. If you tap 111 in the app, your phone makes the call. We do not send your location to anyone.
6. Offline data
Maps, timetables and alerts saved to your device can go out of date. The app shows when it last updated. Check before you rely on saved information, especially alerts and road status.
7. Location
If you allow it, the app uses your location for the map and for things near you. We do not use it to track you or to find you in an emergency. The privacy policy explains what we collect.
8. Bookings and other businesses
We do not sell tours, tickets or rooms. When you book through a link in the app or on the site, your contract is with the operator or marketplace named on that page, on their terms and at the price they show. We are not the supplier. Refunds, changes and complaints about a booking go to them first. If you cannot find the right contact, email us and we will help.
9. How we make money
Some links earn us a commission from the partner when you book. Today those partners are Viator, Klook and DiscoverCars. We say so next to each of those links. The partner sets the price, not us, and it can differ from the operator’s own price. When we link to an operator directly, we say “Book direct (no commission)”. Any sponsored placement will be labelled as sponsored. We also sell one thing ourselves: the optional Trip Pass in sections 11 and 12. We are independent of QLDC, Destination Queenstown, Orbus and the Otago Regional Council, NZSki, Cardrona and RealNZ.
10. Business listings and deals
A business may appear in the app without having asked to be listed. Deals are offered by the business, can change or end at any time, and are the business’s responsibility. A business can ask us to correct or remove its listing at hello@queenstownpocket.com. The claim or correct your listing page sets out what we hold, how to correct it and how long each step takes.
11. The Trip Pass
- For 14 days from when you buy it, the Trip Pass lets you invite up to three other people to see and edit a trip plan with you in the app. While it runs, anyone on that plan can invite people to it.
- It is one payment. It does not renew, and nothing is charged again when it ends. The 14 days are counted in hours: the pass ends 336 hours after you buy it.
- When it ends, invite links made with it stop working. People who already joined keep the plan and can still edit it.
- It belongs to your Queenstown Pocket account, so you need to be signed in to buy it. One pass runs at a time.
- Buses, roads, walks, the map and everything you can book stay free for everyone, with or without a pass. Founding members get one pass free, once per email address.
- Bought in the app: Apple or Google sold it to you through the App Store or Google Play, and the store handles refunds. See the Trip Pass in the app.
12. Buying the Trip Pass on this website
When you buy a Trip Pass on queenstownpocket.com, the seller is Tally Sphere Limited. The checkout is run by RevenueCat and the payment is processed by Stripe: you give your card or wallet details to them, and we never see your card number.
- You sign in on the website with the email address you use in the app, and the pass goes on that account. To use it, sign in to the app with the same email address.
- The checkout shows the price in New Zealand dollars and the total before you pay, and emails you a receipt.
- The 14 days start when the payment goes through. The website does not offer a pass while one is running on your account.
Refunds for a pass bought on this website.
- If the pass does not work because of a fault on our side, tell us. We will fix it, extend the pass or refund you, and where the fault is serious you can choose a full refund.
- If you change your mind within 48 hours of buying and have not made an invite link with the pass, we refund it in full.
- Email hello@queenstownpocket.com from the email address on your account. We reply within 3 business days. Refunds go back to the card or wallet you paid with; your bank decides how soon it shows.
- A refund ends the pass, and invite links made with it stop working.
- Deleting your account ends a pass that is still running, and deleting does not refund it. Ask us before you delete.
Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, the Fair Trading Act 1986, the Australian Consumer Law, or any other consumer law that applies to you and cannot be excluded.
13. Your content
The app does not accept reviews, photos or comments from users. If we add that, we will update these terms first.
14. Our content and other people’s
The words, maps, design and code in the app and on the site belong to us or are used with permission. Some data belongs to others and is used under licence, including OpenStreetMap contributors, the Otago Regional Council’s timetables, DOC and MET Norway. Each source is credited where its data appears. Please do not copy, scrape or republish our content in bulk without asking.
15. Acceptable use
Please do not:
- use automated tools to copy or collect content from the app or the site
- interfere with the app, the site or the systems behind them
- reverse engineer the app, except as the law allows
- use the app or the site for anything unlawful
- present yourself as us
16. Copyright complaints (notice and takedown)
If you think something in the app or on the site infringes your copyright, email hello@queenstownpocket.com with “Copyright notice” in the subject line. Include:
- your name and contact details
- the work you say is infringed
- where the material appears (the page address or the app screen)
- a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised
- a statement that your notice is accurate and that you own the right or act for the owner
- your signature (a typed name is fine)
We will reply to every notice. If the notice is made out, we will remove or disable the material. If the material came from a partner such as Viator, we will also pass the complaint to them, as their terms require.
17. Your rights under consumer law
Nothing in these terms limits a right you have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, the Fair Trading Act 1986 or any other law that cannot be excluded. If you use the app or the site in trade, you agree that the Consumer Guarantees Act does not apply to that use, to the extent section 43 of that Act allows.
18. Liability
To the extent the law allows:
- We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss caused by a business or partner we link to.
- Our total liability to you for anything to do with the app or the site is limited to the greater of NZ$100 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
In New Zealand, personal injury is covered by the ACC scheme under the Accident Compensation Act 2001, which generally takes the place of a right to sue for damages for that injury.
19. Your responsibility
If you break these terms or the law and that causes us loss, you are responsible for that loss. This is the only indemnity you give us.
20. Suspension and ending
You can stop using the app at any time and delete it. We can suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, and we will tell you first where we practicably can. We may stop offering the app or the site. If we do, we will give notice in the app where we can.
21. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will post the new version with the date it takes effect, and give reasonable notice in the app and on the site of any change that affects you. A change applies from that date forward, never backwards, and never changes a Trip Pass you have already bought. If you do not agree with a change, stop using the app.
22. Law and disputes
New Zealand law applies to these terms. If something goes wrong, email us first and we will try to put it right. If we cannot agree, you can take a claim to the Disputes Tribunal, which hears claims up to $60,000, or to the New Zealand courts. If you live outside New Zealand, you keep any consumer rights your local law gives you that cannot be excluded.
23. If you got the app from Apple’s App Store
- These terms are between you and Tally Sphere Limited, not Apple.
- Your licence covers Apple-branded devices you own or control, as the App Store’s usage rules allow, including Family Sharing.
- We alone are responsible for maintaining and supporting the app.
- If the app fails to meet a warranty that applies, you can tell Apple, and Apple will refund the price you paid, if any. Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
- We, not Apple, deal with any claim about the app, including product liability, a failure to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and consumer protection claims.
- We, not Apple, deal with any claim that the app infringes someone else’s intellectual property.
- You confirm that you are not in a country under a US Government embargo, or one the US Government has designated as supporting terrorism, and that you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must follow any third-party terms that apply when you use the app, such as your mobile data agreement.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and can enforce them against you.
- Questions, complaints and claims go to Tally Sphere Limited at hello@queenstownpocket.com. Our registered office is on the New Zealand Companies Register.
