Queenstown winter itinerary: 3 days without a car
Three ski-season days from the town centre with no rental car and no chains: two days on the fields by the operators' buses, one day off on the $2.50 Orbus, the hot pools to finish. Every price is the operator's published 2026 figure.

In short: Two ski days and a rest day work without a car: the NZSki Ski Bus from 9 Duke Street ($36 return) to Coronet Peak and The Remarkables (day pass $180), or the Cardrona coach ($45 return, from $184), then Arrowtown by Route 4, the gondola ($69) and the hot pools on the last day. Stay in the centre or on Route 1 so the ski buses and the airport bus are all a walk away.

Day 1: Arrive, the lakefront and the Bee Card

Can you ski in Queenstown without a car?
Yes. NZSki's Ski Bus leaves 9 Duke Street from 7:30am for Coronet Peak and The Remarkables at $36 adult return, and the Cardrona and Treble Cone coach is $45 return from Queenstown. Orbus does not go to any ski field, and the mountain roads require chains on snow days, which the buses carry.

Where should I stay for a winter trip to Queenstown without a car?
In the town centre or on Orbus Route 1 (Fernhill, Frankton): the Ski Bus leaves from Duke Street in the centre and also picks up in Frankton for The Remarkables, the Cardrona coach picks up in the centre, and Route 1 runs to the airport every 15 minutes or so.
What is open in Queenstown in winter besides skiing?
The gondola, luge and toboggan slope, the hot pools at Arthurs Point, Kiwi Park, the Lakes District Museum in Arrowtown, the jet boats and bungy, and the lake-level walks (Queenstown Hill, the Frankton Track, Lake Hayes). The Routeburn and Milford Tracks are off-season and Ben Lomond above the saddle is an alpine route.
