What to do in June
- Ski. The ski fields compared guide has dates, passes, buses and drive times for all four.
- No car needed. The NZSki Ski Bus ($36 return) and the Cardrona bus ($45) leave central Queenstown; Orbus does not go up the mountain roads.
- Night ski. Coronet Peak, Wednesday and Friday evenings from early July (1 July in 2026), with its own bus from Duke Street.
- The short-day plan. Sun sets before 5:30pm; hot pools, the museum and the cinema fill the evenings.

Do I need snow chains in June?
Carry them if you drive to a ski field or over the Crown Range, and fit them when the sign says so or when instructed; QLDC can fine drivers $750 for not fitting chains in snowy or icy conditions from winter 2026. The ski buses avoid the question.
